Infusing a retro sound with present-tense drive, this Boston-based trio makes the case that a set of smartly chosen covers can trump one of pedestrian original fare.  In particular, the vocal presence of guitarist Cody Nilsen provides the spark when taking on gems such as Billy Boy Arnold’s “Cryin’ & Pleadin’”, James Brown’s “I Don’t Mind” and Little Walter’s “My Baby Sweeter”.  Turning the Sam and Dave hit “Hold On, I’m Coming” into a lap steel feature and recalling Lonnie Mack’s “Chicken Pickin’” garners them points instrumentally as well.
