The congenial, collegial atmosphere of the first volume of this roots celebrity lineup shows as strong on this additional release culled from sessions hosted by the renowned Dickinson clan. The likes of Charlie Musselwhite, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Jimbo Mathus once again make for good company for guitarist Luther, drummer Cody and the departed patriarch, pianist Jim Dickinson, creating a vibe both casual and highly focused. Mr. Musselwhite’s blues harp is a formidable presence throughout, fortifying other player’s features as well as making for the set’s strongest moments when fronting this crew. His particular mastery of minor keys shows once again here on his composition “Black Water”. The elder Dickinson delivers pleasing work on Jimmy Reed’s “Can’t Stand To See You Go” and the slow Roosevelt Sykes number “Blues Is A Mighty Bad Feeling”. The authentic feel of Cody Dickinson’s drumming contributes much to the success of these tracks as well.
