Born and raised in Virginia, and performing professionally since age 16, Junior Sisk is one of bluegrass music’s top contemporary male vocalists. In fact, he won IBMA’s Male Vocalist of the Year Award in 2013. He put out about a half dozen albums on the Rebel Records label before moving to the Mountain Fever label in 2017.
Peaking at #3 on The Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Bluegrass Album Chart, “If There’s a Will There’s a Way” is Sisk’s fourth album on that label, and once again, he and bandmates play and sing their hearts out on these ten tracks of top notch radio-friendly bluegrass music. Since 2023, Junior Sisk has been joined by Heather Berry Mabe (guitar), Tony Mabe (banjo), Jonathan Dillon (mandolin) and Curt Love (bass), a quartet that also performs on their own as Red Camel Collective. On this recording, Tim Crouch also lays in some very tasty fiddling throughout, Dan Tyminski adds tenor vocal harmony on “A Man Like Me,” and Ricky Skaggs sings high harmony on the ¾-time “Memories of Mother.”
Other standout tracks include the opener, “What a Wonderful Life” and Sisk’s cover of Randy Crowell’s “Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper’s Dream).” Heather Berry Mabe’s lead vocals on “Bluegrass Country” are a treat. This strong contemporary bluegrass music has consistent cohesion and a unique flair that currently defines the genre that keeps two feet moving forward while also keeping one planted in its traditional roots.
