RC and the Moonpie Band is an “American roots band” that incorporates blues, R ‘n B, soul, rock ‘n roll and even a few Latin flavorings. Based in Green Swamp, North Carolina, the group emphasizes original material on their second album, “All This.” It’s a brazen move for these adventurists whose swagger is energetic and spontaneous. While blues are the cornerstone of their infectious groove, one funky track declares, “I’m shakin’ off the blues ‘cuz I ain’t got nothin’ to lose.” They revisit the theme on “The Buddy Guy Up” when RC exclaims “we play those blues and a little rock ‘n roll.”

High marks for adaptability, the band wisely calls upon some guest artists like Bruce Katz to add piano or organ on a few tracks. Bob Margolin’s guitar is a sweet addition on “Big Ass Jug o’ Wine,” and Rich Moncure’s trombone helps take ‘Somebody Buy Me a Drink” into jazzy territory. “Funky Way” closes the album with a guest appearance of The Green Swamp Horns that could’ve even been successfully incorporated into a few additional tracks such as “Cheated on Me” and the title track.
