Trumpeter and vocalist Augie Hass’ sixth album presents jazz and doo-wop favorites, each tastefully rendered with unique flair. The songs are arranged with lavish string orchestration and interpretive twists provided by the trumpeter and solid rhythm section of Jared Schonig (drums), Dick Sarpola (bass) and Carmen Staff (piano, organ).  They jump start and turn “Love Me Tender” into a swinging musical journey.  Staff especially shines on classics like “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?,” “Blackbird” and “Stand By Me.” The sumptuous 15-piece string section, arranged and directed by Andrew Neesley, is more prevalent in some numbers (e.g. “Dream A Little Dream,” “Goody Goody”) than others, and it was wise to not overly orchestrate every number to the same extent. The album conveys Haas’ musical vision, one that apparently highlights his special fondness and past experience with orchestras, big bands and Broadway shows. Best known as a superior instrumentalist, this album also showcases Augie Haas’ relaxed vocal style on eight of the tracks. Clearly a fun project for this consummate musician, Augie Haas’ “Dream A Little Dream” is a very pleasant listen.    (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
